Dr. Peter Glidden
Dr. Peter Glidden, a certified naturopathic doctor and the author of The MD Emperor Has No Clothes: Everybody Is Sick And I Know Why, joins us for an expansive discussion about naturopathic medicine and the claims of traditional Western medicine (or allopathy). When we consider the Western medical paradigm, images that come to mind likely include surgical or pharmaceutical crisis intervention. Allopathic doctors, or M.D.s, often assert that this is the only “evidence-based medicine” and that other fields of medicine are quackery. But are they missing something important?
Allopathic heart disease experts have claimed low cholesterol is vital for heart health; but a study released in 2009 showed that nearly 75 percent of heart attack sufferers had low or optimal cholesterol levels. In light of this startling statistic, perhaps waning public faith in Western medicine is not so surprising. A 2007 study showed that nearly 40% of Americans pay out-of-pocket for complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies.
A prominent lecturer on holistic health, Dr. Glidden speaks regularly at Health Freedom Expo & Youngevity Regional Meetings and is a regular guest host on the Dead Doctors Don’t Lie Health Talk radio program. He maintains a busy private health consultation practice in Chicago, assisting people all over the world via telephone and Skype. Tune in as Dr. Peter Glidden offers a respected naturopath’s insight into holistic medicine and lays out his findings in The MD Emperor Has No Clothes.

I’m sorry this took me so long to find but I am glad I did!
For anyone with questions about what Dr. Glidden spoke about in this interview, please see this article written by G.N.Schrauzer, Ph.D., FACN., CNS

Thank you,

Some valuable information here, I do wish that Dr. Glidden would have focused a bit more on the bioavailability of trace mineral supplements. There is a lot conflicting information in nutritional circles regarding how the body absorbs and metabolizes nutrients/vitamins/minerals/enzymes/amino acids. When “dead Dr.s don’t lie” was first published, there was a mad rush to take colloidal minerals, yet there is little proof that a mineral (metallic) whether suspended in a liquid or in a powder or pill is available to be utilized by our cells. I have no doubt that the body benefits from supplementation (the proof of the pudding is in the tasting), I only question the superiority of the more expensive forms over less expensive forms, the how and why, and supporting evidence.
Dear Jack,
Thank you for your astute comment and for taking the time to express it.
I will see what I can do to get an answer for you about this matter.
It’s a very good point.
I first heard Peter Glidden on two interviews with Jan Irvin’s Gnostic Media Podcast* in which Glidden also stated that it’s impossible to get all required nutrients from food. In other words, if you want to be healthy, you must supplement. He discussed the Wallach (his mentor) Youngevity formula in more depth on Gnostic Media, building a case that this product is the only assured way of getting all the necessary nutrients incorporated into your body. (Jan interviewed Glidden twice and Wallach once.)

In case you missed it, Youngevity sells essential nutrient supplements. The company, created by Joel Wallach in 1997, is organized in an MLM (multi-level marketing) business model. Dr. Glidden sells Youngevity, and I think is some kind of partner with Wallach in the business. Glidden claims that Wallach takes no profits from Youngevity.
The first point about the impossibility of getting all necessary nutrition from food, which Glidden made in both GnosticMedia and Rainmaking interviews, slipped by both Jan Irvin and Kim without a “hold on pardner, are you saying what I think you’re saying?” But this to me sounded outrageous — to suggest that the human species had evolved all this time with built-in nutritional deficits.
Although Glidden did not provide any evidence from his claim, the Youngevity Foundation website explains it as a a problem of mineral and vitamin depletion in agricultural soil:
http://www.longevinst.org/nlt/newsletter16.htm
http://www.longevinst.org/nlt/newsletter1.htm
The second article concludes: “We can only find the minerals and the vitamins we need in appropriated food supplements.”
Given this context, Glidden, who is prone to hyperbole, appears to have over-simplified the situation in his on-air assertion. If the science behind it is valid, a more accurate claim might be: Industrial agriculture has depleted the soil-based minerals and vitamins essential to human health. Therefore, it is difficult for consumers who eat food from this system to get all their essential nutrients. And therefore, a person living in this industrialized society must ingest mineral/vitamin supplements.
With all this said, and despite my skepticism about Glidden/Wallach and their connections to the Youngevity products, I went wheat free after hearing the Gnostic Media Glidden interviews this past November. And I must say that I am steadily losing excess weight and feeling far more healthy and vital.
Thanks for all the intelligent and responsible interviews you do, Kim.
Dear David,
Thank you for listening to the show and for taking your time to express your comments. As for Dr. Gliddens comment about the impossibility of getting necessary nutrition from food “slipping by me”; It did not slip by me at all.
It is understood by many people today who care about their health that the condition of our agricultural process, ie… the soil, chemical fertilizers, types of seeds, water and air quality, combined with major pollution has severly depleted the minerals and nutrients of food on a major level. Being that most of us are aware of this who are health conscious, it was not necessary for me as a host to stop Dr. Glidden on something that is so verifiably accurate.
I think that your point about Dr. Glidden oversimplifying the explanation of why we need to supplement is a good point. What you wrote as an alternative to how he could explain it is much more effective and is a good suggestion to him for presenting it.
“Industrial agriculture has depleted the soil-based minerals and vitamins essential to human health. Therefore, it is difficult for consumers who eat food from this system to get all their essential nutrients. And therefore, a person living in this industrialized society must ingest mineral/vitamin supplements”.
Thank you for your input and we look forward to your continued engagement.

I would like to know why the Youngevity vitamin/mineral power contains maltodextrin as the first ingredient when there are so many warnings about sensitivities to this product and about its effects on blood sugar. I would also like to know why it contains fructose and exactly what the “natural flavors and colors” are…?
also, why the additive xanthum gum?
I had similar questions before I started taking the products and Dr. Glidden was able to go through the details, answer and explain the same questions for me. I highly recommend giving him a call and asking him, 630-689-7579. He is very easy to speak with, knowledgable and gets back to people within a day.
It would be very advisable for someone of authority with respect to these products promptly respond to the questions about the additives that are in the product without anyone having to call him privately to get the answers. These forums are also for accountability with respect to answering questions. So now I am asking the questions that Lisa Ball asked on this forum. Why does the Youngevity vitamin/mineral powder contain maltodextrin as the first ingredient when there are so many warnings about sensitivities to this product and about its effects on blood sugar? Does the company think that it has no negative effect on the human body? Why do the products contain fructose and exactly what are the natural flavors and colors? Why is the additive xanthum gum in the product as well? Maybe someone with the company, who sells or represents the product can actually take the time to respond to the questions in writing. That would be great! Thank you. Kim Greenhouse, Producer & Host, It’s Rainmaking Time!
Your questions are well founded and whatever answers you get, I would like you to share it with us. Thank you for paying attention to the details.
What a FANTASTIC interview!!! I loved how you broke it down with Dr. Glidden and got into the details of each “bad” food. Dr. Glidden is a phenomenal man, teacher, doctor and healer. It is because of him that I have gain my health back, I truly owe him my life. He says you can not heal a nutritional deficiency with drugs, it sounds so simple and yet so many people out there are hypnotized to just go with the flow, blindly believe what most M.D.s tell them and take drugs (not nutrition) thinking it will make them better!
Thank you for this interview. I learned a great deal from it and my belief is that it will awaken many people to the truth around health and healing!
